Where to Stay in SMA

There are so many beautiful places to stay in San Miguel de Allende. Below are some recomendations we have for you. There are B&B's, a Best Western and vacations homes that several of you can pitch in to get together to save money.

Casa Luna B&B (SOLD OUT)
This is the place that started it all. Our friend Dianne runs this amazing hotel that is probably the most romantic place we have ever been. Ronnie and I stayed here on our first trip to SMA and it was almost a home-base while we lived there. Each room has it's own flare and charm. They have King sized beds or can make two twins if you like. All have bathtubs and I believe fireplaces.

Hotel Villa Mirasol (Avg. $95 a night including breakfast)
Although we have never stayed here, it gets amazing reviews on Tripadvisor and is literally around the corner from where we will be staying. The rooms have balconies and wifi but the bathrooms are showers only. This hotel is built in an old colonial home and looks cozy and charming. This is a good alternative if Casa Luna is a bit out of your price range but you want a similar feel.

Casa Sierra Nevada (Avg. $265 a night)
A very luxurious and high end five star hotel that often appears in travel magazines. They have two properties: one in Parque Juarez and one in centro (downtown). Both are close and operate shuttles to either property. They have a pool, business center, restaurants and on and on. It is gorgeous but you have to pay the price. This may be one of the most expensive hotels in San Miguel de Allende and is best for those looking for a farmilar hotel feel as opposed to a B&B. When we stayed it was beautiful but was out of our usual budget.

Hotel Villa Rivera (Avg. $105 a night)
We have never stayed here but have peaked into their bar which is beautiful. This hotel is only one block from the main square and about 4 blocks from where we will be staying. It has a pool, free wifi and offers a light breakfast with your stay. It looks lovely and is well priced.

Best Western Monteverde (Average $70 a night)
We have never been inside but the reviews on Expedia were a 4.2 out of 5 for this place. Nice lawn space and places to sit, but a basic hotel with not a lot of amenities. It is about an 8 minute walk from where we will be staying and 10 minutes from the town square (jardin).

Hostel Alcatraz ($10 per person per night)
Phone (Mexico Number) 01 415-152-8543
A good friend of ours in SMA swears by this little hostel. He said he met his roommates there and people from all around the world. Some of the rooms are dorm style but people seem to love it. Only a couple blocks from the main square, this hostel is worth checking out if you are on a tight budget.

Also, be sure to check out some vacation rentals. There are many amazing homes to rent for the week or a few days that are stunning. Why rent just a room when you can have a whole house?! Pretend you live in SMA for the week! Prices vary greatly but this route is recommended for those wanting to feel like they are expats themselves!
